Top 20 Magento Web Development Companies in USA (2026): Patch Speed, Support Dates and the Store You Own

Top 20 Magento web development companies in USA 2026 - Brain Station 23 buyer's guide

Inside this Article

It is a Thursday in September, and an unfamiliar script is running on the checkout page.

The patch that would have stopped it shipped a week earlier, and nobody applied it.

That store is a composite, not a client of any firm below. Every part of it is this month’s news. Attacks on StyleSmuggler, a Magento flaw rated 10 out of 10, began on 4 September; Adobe shipped an emergency fix on 7 September, and CISA listed the flaw as exploited the next day (Sansec; CISA). A second flaw, published on 11 August, joined CISA’s list on 24 September (NVD).

Every firm on this Top 20 Magento Web Development Companies in USA list can build a store. What separates them is how fast they patch one. After the SessionReaper fix in 2025, just 38 percent of Magento stores had applied it six weeks later (Sansec).

This guide prices the work and sets out how to shortlist. It then covers what the build quote leaves out: the patch window, Adobe’s support dates, and the admin, hosting and licence accounts that must be in your name.

Key takeaways

  • 10.0 out of 10 was the severity of CVE-2026-75650, StyleSmuggler, which was attacked from 4 September 2026 and fixed on 7 September (Sansec; NVD).
  • 24 September 2026 is when CVE-2026-71362, a 9.1 authorization flaw published on 11 August, joined CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog (CISA; NVD).
  • 38% of Magento stores had patched SessionReaper by 23 October 2025, six weeks after the fix (Sansec).
  • 31 May 2027 is the end of standard support for Adobe Commerce 2.4.7; standard support for 2.4.6 ended on 11 August 2026 (Adobe).
  • 1.6% of the e-commerce systems W3Techs detects run Adobe Commerce, the product that includes Magento (W3Techs).
  • 57 of 167 first-page reviews across the top twenty firms name Magento, but seven of the twenty have fewer than ten reviews in total (Clutch profiles).
  • 14 of 20 firms publish rates of $100 an hour or more, and the median minimum project is $10,000 (Clutch profiles).
  • $73,000 to $99,864 is the spread between PayScale’s Magento skill average and Indeed’s Magento developer average, both from small samples (PayScale; Indeed).

Magento in 2026: a smaller platform with a hard calendar

Magento is a specialist platform now. W3Techs finds Adobe Commerce on 1.6 percent of the e-commerce systems it detects and 0.3 percent of all websites (W3Techs). The stores that stay on it tend to be the ones that need what it does well: large catalogues, B2B pricing, several storefronts from one back end, and deep ERP integration. That is also why they are expensive to move.

The name covers two products. Magento Open Source is the free edition. Adobe Commerce is the licensed edition built on the same code, sold either self-hosted or on Adobe’s cloud. Both take the same security patches, and both are affected by the flaws above (CISA).

Every release line has an end date. Adobe gives each 2.4 release a standard support window, with extended support after it for Adobe Commerce customers. Standard support for 2.4.6 ended on 11 August 2026, and its extended support runs to 31 August 2027. Version 2.4.7 is supported until 31 May 2027, 2.4.8 until 31 May 2028 and 2.4.9, released on 12 May 2026, until 31 May 2029 (Adobe).

The support dates behind a Magento store

Adobe also says it does not provide fixes for third-party dependencies such as PHP and MySQL that reach end of life during a release’s support period, and that Cloud customers must move to a supported version before the end of extended support (Adobe). A store on a supported Magento version can still be running an unsupported PHP.

So a Magento brief needs three answers before any firm is compared: which 2.4 release the store runs today, whether it is Open Source, self-hosted Adobe Commerce or Adobe’s cloud, and who applies security patches and how fast.

What Magento development costs in the US

Pay figures for Magento work spread by $26,864 across two small samples, with a federal benchmark in between.

PayScale reports an average base salary of $73,000 for the Magento skill, from only 16 people, last updated on 28 January 2025 (PayScale). Indeed reports $99,864 for a Magento developer from 37 job-posting salaries, updated 10 September 2026 (Indeed). The Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median web developer at $92,650 in May 2025 (BLS).

US pay for Magento and web developer roles runs from $73,000 to $99,864
Average or median annual pay for comparable US roles. Sources: PayScale, BLS, Indeed.

Both Magento samples are too small to lean on, which is itself a finding: there are few US Magento salaries to measure. Treat the BLS figure as the anchor and ask any vendor what seniority its rate assumes.

Agency pricing on this list runs high. Fourteen of the twenty firms publish $100 an hour or more, and eight sit in the $150 to $199 band. Four publish less than $50. The median minimum project is $10,000, from $1,000 to $100,000 (Clutch profiles, read 28 September 2026). Ten report a most common project of $50,000 to $199,999.

The typical engagement is a mid-sized build or rebuild, not a small theme job. The exceptions sit at both ends: HTMLPanda publishes under $25 an hour with a $1,000 minimum, and metajive publishes a $100,000 minimum. Eight factors decide where a Magento quote lands.

Eight factors that move a Magento development quote
What moves a Magento quote. Source: Brain Station 23 analysis.

The starting point comes first: a new store, an upgrade within 2.4, or a replatform from Magento 1, Shopify or another system. Then the edition and hosting; the catalogue size and B2B rules; the ERP, PIM and payment integrations; the theme and front end; the number of third-party extensions, each of which needs its own updates; data migration; and the support terms, above all the patch window. Ask every vendor to price the upgrade and the support retainer as separate lines.

The Top 20 Magento Web Development Companies in USA, compared

We used Clutch’s directory of Magento developers in the United States, sorted by Clutch Rank and read on 28 September 2026. It lists 1,230 firms. One paid “featured” row sat above the organic list that day: Rave Digital, which also ranks second organically, and we use its organic position. Firms 2 to 21 below are the directory’s top 20 in Clutch Rank order.

Brain Station 23 is placed first because we publish this article. We are US-headquartered, but Magento is not part of our published Clutch e-commerce split, and Clutch’s ranking did not place us in its top 20.

Overall ratings below run from 4.3 to 5.0, and several rest on very few reviews, so the stars separate these firms less than the review counts do. The Magento Focus column shows Magento’s share of each firm’s published e-commerce platform split.

Team sizes, service and platform splits, industries and locations are from each firm’s published Clutch profile, read 28 September 2026. “Best For” is our reading of that data. Engagement models and certifications are not published consistently across these profiles, so we have left them out rather than guess.

Profiles are grouped by buyer type, and the numbers match the table. Each caution comes from the Review Highlights that Clutch publishes from the firm’s verified reviews, or from its lowest sub-score where Clutch surfaced no complaint. Certifications are self-published and unverified by us, and none of these profiles lists an Adobe partner level, so ask. Where we cite reviews, we read the first page of reviews on each profile, up to eleven per firm.

1. Brain Station 23

We publish this article and placed ourselves first, so read this entry as the publisher’s pick. We are not a Magento agency: e-commerce is 5 percent of our published Clutch services, our e-commerce split lists Shopify and WooCommerce but not Magento, and one of our eleven first-page reviews is tagged Magento. Our strength is staffing: 60 percent of our work is engineers embedded in client teams, at the $25 to $49 band that EbizON Digital and Tekglide also publish, with a $10,000 minimum. That suits a retailer with its own Magento lead who needs PHP engineers for a 2.4 upgrade or a patch backlog. Our ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II controls matter when engineers hold admin and server access. Reviewers score Quality at 5.0, and some asked for tighter internal coordination.

What the twenty profiles show

These are real Magento shops. Magento’s share of the twenty firms’ e-commerce platform splits has a median of 65 percent, and four list it as their only platform. Of 167 first-page reviews, 57 name Magento and six name Adobe Commerce, far more platform evidence than we found on our Kotlin or ASP.NET lists (Brain Station 23 analysis of Clutch profiles, read 28 September 2026).

The directory behind them is thin. Across all 1,229 US firms we read, the median puts Magento at 30 percent. Of the 115 firms that list Magento as 100 percent of their e-commerce work, 95 have no reviews, and 738 firms in the directory have no reviews at all. A Top 20 Magento Web Development Companies in USA list built on ratings will favour the few specialists with a review history.

Most of these firms also sell the exit. Fourteen of the twenty list Shopify, nine list BigCommerce and five list WooCommerce. Twenty-one first-page reviews name Shopify and 37 describe a migration or replatform. A firm that builds on both is well placed to advise on whether to stay; ask it to argue the case both ways.

The review counts are the warning. Seven of the twenty have fewer than ten reviews: Silk Software with one, Shero Commerce with two, Pixafy with three, Living Proof Creative with six, Jola Interactive and Classy Llama with seven, and Kadro with nine. The median across the twenty is 15. For those firms, references matter more than the stars.

Schedule slips more often here. Among the 19 firms whose sub-scores differ, Cost is the lowest or joint lowest for 11, and Schedule for seven. Magento projects carry integrations and data migrations that are hard to estimate.

How to shortlist a Magento web development company

Order the filters so the first one removes the most firms.

Seven steps to shortlist a Magento web development company
A shortlisting sequence for Magento vendors. Source: Brain Station 23 analysis.

Step 1: Name the version and edition. Magento Open Source, self-hosted Adobe Commerce or Adobe’s cloud, and which 2.4 release. The support dates and the vendor’s tooling differ.

Step 2: Decide whether you are staying. If a replatform is on the table, start with firms that build on both Magento and Shopify or BigCommerce, and ask for an honest comparison.

Step 3: Match your integrations. If the store runs on SAP, NetSuite or Dynamics, start with the firms whose ERP split names it.

Step 4: Check the review count, not only the rating. Seven firms here have fewer than ten reviews. Ask them for three references you can call.

Step 5: Ask for the patch window. The answer should be a number of days for critical Adobe security bulletins, and a record of when they applied APSB26-146 in September 2026.

Step 6: Ask who owns the accounts. The Adobe or Magento Marketplace account, hosting, admin users, payment gateway and extension licences should be in your name from day one.

Step 7: Buy a paid audit. A short fixed-fee audit of the version, PHP level, installed extensions and patch history shows the real size of the job before you fund it.

How to buy Magento development: four engagement models

The engagement model decides who pays when an upgrade uncovers broken extensions.

Four ways to buy Magento development and who carries the risk

Fixed price moves overrun risk to the vendor, who prices it in. It suits a new store with settled requirements. It fails on upgrades and migrations, where extension and data problems only surface once work starts.

Time and materials keeps the risk with you. It suits upgrades, replatforms and stores still changing. Cap each phase and review burn every week.

Support retainer covers security patches, extension updates, the next 2.4 upgrade and a block of change requests. For Magento, this is the contract that matters most.

Staff augmentation adds Magento or PHP engineers to your team. Tekglide and Brain Station 23 publish staff augmentation lines. It fails when nobody in-house owns the release and patch decisions.

The technical question: keeping a Magento store supported

A store that has not been upgraded for two years is usually on a release near the end of support, an old PHP version and extensions nobody has updated. The order of the work decides whether it is a planned upgrade or an emergency.

What to move off, and what to move to, on a Magento store
Version and practice changes for a Magento store. Sources: Adobe Commerce lifecycle policy, Sansec, CISA.

Step 1: Patch before anything else. Apply the current Adobe security bulletins, including APSB26-146 for StyleSmuggler, before planning any upgrade (Sansec). An upgrade takes weeks; an exploited flaw takes days.

Step 2: Check the store for compromise. A store that ran unpatched during an active campaign should be scanned for injected scripts and unknown admin users before new work starts.

Step 3: Inventory the extensions. List every third-party module, its version and whether its vendor supports your target release. Extensions are where upgrades break.

Step 4: Move to a supported release line. Standard support for 2.4.6 ended on 11 August 2026. Version 2.4.7 is supported until 31 May 2027, 2.4.8 until 31 May 2028 and 2.4.9 until 31 May 2029 (Adobe).

Step 5: Upgrade PHP and the database with it. Adobe does not patch PHP or MySQL that reach end of life during a release’s support window (Adobe), so the platform stack must move on its own schedule.

Step 6: Test checkout, payments and integrations. Run a full order through every payment method, tax rule and ERP sync on staging before release.

Step 7: Schedule the next round. A new 2.4 release arrives about once a year, most recently 2.4.9 on 12 May 2026. Budget an upgrade every year or two rather than a rescue every five.

Red flags: eight answers to walk away from

Each of these answers should end the conversation, or at least change the contract.

“We patch in our monthly window.” StyleSmuggler went from first attack to CISA’s list in four days (Sansec).

“2.4.6 is still supported.” Its standard support ended on 11 August 2026 (Adobe).

“We’ll upgrade and patch at the same time.” Patch first; an upgrade is not a security fix.

“Your extensions will be fine.” Ask for the extension inventory before any estimate.

“We didn’t need APSB26-146.” Ask for the date they applied it for each client.

“The admin account is ours.” Every admin user should be named, and yours to remove.

“The extensions are on our licence.” Paid extension licences stop updating when they leave with the agency.

“You should move to Shopify.” It may be right, but ask for the cost of staying and of moving, side by side.

After launch: what the build quote leaves out

This part covers what owners wish they had settled before the final invoice, and what recurs for as long as the store trades.

What you must own before the final invoice

The code repository with its full history, in your GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket organisation, not a zip or a server copy.

The Adobe Commerce or Magento Marketplace account, with composer access keys issued to your organisation.

Hosting, CDN and web application firewall accounts, with billing in your name and the vendor added as a user you can remove.

Every admin user, named to a person, with multifactor authentication on.

Paid extension and theme licences, bought under your account, so security updates keep arriving.

Payment gateway, tax and shipping accounts, owned by your company, not configured through the agency’s.

Environment configuration and encryption keys, in a vault you control.

A runbook, covering deployment, rollback, patching, backups, cron jobs and incident contacts.

The bill that arrives after launch

A build quote covers the build. Ask for the recurring number before you sign, and compare vendors over three years.

Security patching comes first, because Adobe’s recent critical bulletins have been followed by exploitation within days. Then hosting and CDN, the Adobe Commerce licence if you are on it, extension renewals, the next 2.4 upgrade with its PHP and database moves, and monitoring for injected scripts. Change requests usually outgrow everything else by year two.

Security is a recurring cost

Magento checkouts handle card payments, which makes them a constant target. CISA has listed four Adobe Commerce and Magento flaws as exploited since July 2024, two of them in September 2026 alone (CISA). SessionReaper, rated 9.1, was patched on 9 September 2025; ten days later fewer than one in three stores had applied the fix, and by 23 October just 38 percent had (Sansec; NVD).

Security figures for Magento stores

StyleSmuggler was worse: attacks began on 4 September 2026, three days before Adobe’s emergency fix (Sansec). A monthly patch window does not cover that risk. Write a patch window, in days, for Adobe priority 1 bulletins into the support agreement, and pay for a web application firewall and script monitoring on the checkout.

Accessibility is legal exposure

WebAIM found detected WCAG 2 failures on 95.9 percent of the top million home pages in 2026 (WebAIM Million 2026), and more than 5,000 digital accessibility lawsuits were filed in 2025 (UsableNet). Name WCAG 2.2 AA in the contract, test the full checkout with a screen reader in the definition of done, and treat overlay widgets sceptically.

Contract clauses that surface in month nine

IP assignment on payment, not on final acceptance.

Transition assistance, a fixed number of hours at an agreed rate, available whether the relationship ends well or badly.

Rate escalation caps for the support period.

Subcontracting, named and approved in writing, including any offshore delivery centre.

A patch window, in days, for critical and actively exploited vulnerabilities.

An upgrade definition of done, naming the Magento release, PHP version and extension list the store must reach.

Non-solicitation in both directions, with a reasonable term.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Have your own counsel review the contract.

How to leave without losing the store

Confirm, in writing, that the repository, Marketplace account, hosting, extension licences and admin users are already yours. Trigger the transition hours while the relationship is still cordial. Ask the departing team to record walkthroughs of deployment, cron jobs, integrations and any upgrade in progress, and to deploy once in front of your staff.

On the last day, remove the departing team’s admin users, revoke their composer and server keys, and rotate the encryption key, API credentials and payment gateway keys they could have seen.

Hire in-house or hire a Magento web development company

The comparison starts with the wage. Indeed reports $99,864 for a Magento developer and BLS $92,650 for web developers (Indeed; BLS). That is before benefits, recruiting and the time to find someone with current Magento experience, which the small salary samples suggest is scarce.

Hire in-house when the store is the business and changes every week. Knowing the catalogue, the integrations and the customers is the asset.

Hire an agency for a 2.4 upgrade, a replatform or a patch backlog, with the accounts in your name and transition hours in the contract.

Mix the two when you have a store lead but not enough engineers. Staff augmentation fills the gap during an upgrade, and your lead keeps the release decisions.

FAQ

Which companies are the top Magento developers in the USA?

By Clutch Rank on its US Magento directory, read 28 September 2026, the top five organic firms are EbizON Digital, Rave Digital, Staylime, Above The Fray and HTMLPanda (Clutch). Rave Digital has the most reviews, at 110.

How much do US Magento development companies charge?

Fourteen of the twenty firms here publish $100 an hour or more, and eight publish $150 to $199. Minimum projects run from $1,000 to $100,000, with a median of $10,000 (Clutch).

Which Magento versions are still supported?

Adobe Commerce 2.4.7 has standard support until 31 May 2027, 2.4.8 until 31 May 2028 and 2.4.9 until 31 May 2029. Standard support for 2.4.6 ended on 11 August 2026, with extended support to 31 August 2027 (Adobe).

What is StyleSmuggler?

CVE-2026-75650, a template injection flaw in Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source rated 10 out of 10. Attacks began on 4 September 2026, Adobe released a fix on 7 September, and CISA listed it as exploited on 8 September (Sansec; CISA).

What is the difference between Magento and Adobe Commerce?

Magento Open Source is the free edition. Adobe Commerce is the licensed edition built on the same code, with extra features and a cloud option. Adobe offers extended support to Adobe Commerce customers (Adobe).

Is Magento still used?

Yes, though by a narrower group. W3Techs finds Adobe Commerce on 1.6 percent of the e-commerce systems it detects (W3Techs), mostly larger catalogues and B2B stores.

Should I move from Magento to Shopify?

It depends on catalogue size, B2B rules and integrations. Fourteen of the twenty firms here also build on Shopify (Clutch), so ask one to price staying and moving side by side.

Conclusion

The data behind this Top 20 Magento Web Development Companies in USA list says three things. These are genuine Magento shops, with a median of 65 percent of their e-commerce work on the platform and 57 first-page reviews naming it. Seven of them have fewer than ten reviews, so references matter more than stars. And Magento security now moves in days: two flaws joined CISA’s exploited list in September 2026 alone.

Any of the twenty can build a store. What decides the next three years is how fast they patch it, whether it stays on a supported 2.4 release, and whether the repository, Marketplace account, extension licences and admin users are in your name when the work is done.
