Top 20 Full Stack Web Development Companies in USA (2026): CMS Sites, Web Apps and the Seam Between Them

Top 20 Full Stack Web Development Companies in USA (2026) featured image

Inside this Article

Clutch has no category for full-stack web development.

Its US web developers directory lists 17,703 firms, and any of them can write “full stack” on a homepage. So this Top 20 Full Stack Web Development Companies in USA list starts with a filter rather than a label: we read Clutch’s ranking in order and kept only firms whose published frameworks include a front end, such as React, Angular or Vue, and a back end, such as Node.js, Laravel, Django or .NET. Twenty of the first 34 organic firms passed.

Then we read their reviews. Of 194 first-page client reviews, 10 describe the work as full stack and 63 name a content management system, most often WordPress or Drupal (Clutch profiles, read 29 September 2026). Seven of the twenty are, on their own clients’ evidence, website agencies with an engineering bench.

That is exactly right if you need a website. It is the wrong fit if you need a web application, and you are the one who has to know which you are briefing.

The guide covers what the work costs, how to tell the two kinds of firm apart, and what you should hold when the build is done: the repository, the cloud account and the API documentation.

Key takeaways

  • 20 of 34 organic firms at the top of Clutch’s US web developers ranking publish both a front-end and a back-end framework; six publish no framework at all (Clutch).
  • 10 of 194 first-page client reviews across the twenty firms call the work full stack; 63 name a CMS, including 32 that mention WordPress and 20 Drupal (Clutch profiles).
  • 27% of developers in Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey described themselves as full-stack, the largest single role (Stack Overflow).
  • 48.7% and 44.7% of developers worked extensively in Node.js and React in 2025, the two most used web technologies (Stack Overflow).
  • $92,320 to $123,262 is the spread between PayScale’s average base pay and ZipRecruiter’s average pay for a US full-stack developer (PayScale; ZipRecruiter).
  • 21 October 2026 is the end of support for Next.js 15, the first of five front-end and back-end support dates before May 2027 (endoflife.date).
  • 500+ npm packages were compromised by the Shai-Hulud worm in September 2025, which harvested cloud and GitHub credentials (CISA).
  • $25,000 is the median published minimum project across the twenty firms, from $1,000 to $250,000 (Clutch profiles).

Full-stack development in 2026: one job title, two kinds of project

Full-stack is the most common developer role. In Stack Overflow’s 2025 survey, 27 percent of respondents described their job as full-stack developer, ahead of back-end developers at 14.2 percent (Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025). The label is so common that it no longer tells a buyer much about a firm.

Node.js and React carry most of the stack. Among all respondents, 48.7 percent had done extensive work in Node.js and 44.7 percent in React in the past year. Next.js followed at 20.8 percent, Express at 19.9, ASP.NET Core at 19.7, Angular at 18.2 and Vue.js at 17.6, with Django at 12.6 and Laravel at 8.9 (Stack Overflow).

The market sells two different things under one name. One is a content-led website on WordPress or Drupal, with custom themes, plugins, integrations and hosting. The other is a web application: a customer portal, a marketplace or a SaaS product, with its own data model, an API and a front end built in a framework such as React. Both need front-end and back-end work. They need very different teams, and the firms on this list lean clearly one way or the other.

Every layer has its own support calendar. Next.js 15 reaches end of support on 21 October 2026, Angular 20 on 28 November 2026 and PHP 8.2 on 31 December 2026. Laravel 12 stops receiving security fixes on 24 February 2027, and Node.js 22 reaches end of life on 30 April 2027 (endoflife.date: Next.js, Angular, PHP, Laravel, Node.js).

Five front-end and back-end support dates between October 2026 and April 2027

So a full-stack brief needs three answers before any firm is compared: is this a website or an application, which frameworks and versions does it run today, and who will keep both halves on supported versions after launch.

What full-stack development costs in the US

Pay figures for the same role spread by $30,942 across four sources.

PayScale puts the average base pay of a full-stack software developer at $92,320 from 1,436 salary profiles, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median web developer at $92,650 in May 2025 (PayScale; BLS). Glassdoor reports an average of $118,988 for a full-stack developer, with a 25th to 75th percentile range of $92,181 to $155,050, and ZipRecruiter reports $123,262 (Glassdoor; ZipRecruiter).

Neither end is wrong. PayScale reports base pay, BLS groups every web developer together, and the other two sites include more of the package. The gap is a reason to ask what a quote includes, not to pick one number.

Agency pricing on this list spreads just as wide. Five firms publish $150 to $199 an hour, five publish under $50, and one keeps its rate private. The median published minimum project is $25,000, from $1,000 at HTMLPanda to $250,000 at Rightpoint (Clutch profiles, read 29 September 2026).

Eight factors decide where a full-stack quote lands.

Eight factors that move a full-stack development quote
What moves a full-stack quote. Source: Brain Station 23 analysis.

The starting point comes first: a new build, a rebuild or a takeover of someone else’s code. Then whether the product is a CMS site or a custom application; the depth of the front end and its design; the back end, meaning the API, data model and sign-in; integrations with CRM, ERP and payment systems; hosting; the test suite and deployment pipeline, which decide how safely the product can change; and the support terms. Ask every vendor to price the front end, back end and hosting as separate lines.

The Top 20 Full Stack Web Development Companies in USA, compared

Clutch has no full-stack category, so we used its US web developers directory, sorted by Clutch Rank and read on 29 September 2026. It lists 17,703 firms. We skipped the paid featured and Sponsor rows and read each organic firm’s published frameworks in rank order, keeping those that list at least one front-end framework (React, Angular, Vue, Next.js, Gatsby) and at least one back-end framework (Node.js, Laravel, Symfony, Django, .NET, Ruby on Rails, Spring). The first 20 to pass sit between Clutch Rank positions 1 and 35, and they are firms 2 to 21 below, in Clutch Rank order.

Brain Station 23 is placed first because we publish this article. We are US-headquartered and verified on Clutch, and our published frameworks pass the same filter, but we do not appear in the top 150 rows of this directory, so we are not claiming a ranking in it.

The Full-Stack Focus column shows each firm’s web development share of its services, with its largest service line. The # column is this list’s position. Certifications are self-published and unverified wherever they appear.

Team sizes, service splits, frameworks, industries and locations are from each firm’s published Clutch profile, read 29 September 2026. “Best For” is our reading of that data and of each firm’s first-page reviews. Founding years come from the same profiles; certifications are not published consistently, so they appear only in the profiles, marked where a firm states them.

1. Brain Station 23

We publish this article and placed ourselves first, so read this as the publisher’s entry. Our published frameworks pass the same front-end and back-end filter as the twenty below, but we do not rank in this directory’s top 150. Our reviews describe application work rather than CMS sites: an Angular and .NET e-commerce platform with a mobile and web app for a supermarket chain, a subscription point-of-sale system on Azure, and a legacy site moved to nopCommerce. Sixty percent of our work is engineers embedded in client teams, at $25 to $49 an hour with a $10,000 minimum; our full-stack hiring page covers that model. ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II matter when engineers hold production access. One reviewer asked for tighter internal coordination. If you need a small WordPress marketing site, one of the website agencies below fits better.

8. Collective42

Collective42, in Encinitas, splits its work between web design, web development, SEO and paid search. Its first-page reviews describe a 500-page HubSpot-to-WordPress migration, hosting migrations, a WordPress learning platform and SEO and ad management; none mentions React or Node.js, which lead its frameworks. It holds 5.0 across 33 reviews and publishes $100 to $149 an hour. Clients named no improvements. It suits a marketing site with growth work attached.

15. HDC

HDC, Howard Development and Consulting in Denver, is the smallest firm here, and half its industry mix is advertising and marketing: five of its six reviews describe WordPress sites, several built for agencies’ own clients. It lists Laravel and Vue as its frameworks. It publishes $150 to $199 an hour with a $10,000 minimum and scores 5.0 on Quality. Six reviews and a team of two to nine make continuity the question to settle first.

16. Modern Tribe

Modern Tribe, in Lansing, Michigan, builds large WordPress estates: all five reviews describe WordPress work for universities and colleges, including 12,000 pages of legacy content moved to two sites and a Drupal-to-WordPress transfer. Enterprises are 55 percent of its clients, and its minimum is $75,000 at $150 to $199 an hour. One client found a pool of hours burned quickly without a firmer scope. Five reviews is a thin record for its rank.

What the twenty profiles show

The filter removes four firms in ten. Of the 34 organic firms in Clutch Rank positions 1 to 35, twenty publish both a front-end and a back-end framework. Six publish no framework at all, three list only a front end such as React, three list only .NET, and two list only a CMS (Brain Station 23 analysis of Clutch, read 29 September 2026).

The reviews describe websites more often than stacks. We read the first page of reviews on each of the twenty profiles, 194 in all. Sixty-three name a CMS, 32 of them WordPress and 20 Drupal. Twenty-two mention both front-end and back-end work, and ten call the work full stack. React appears in 12, Node.js in four, Laravel in two and Next.js in none, even though Next.js appears on six firms’ framework lists.

What 194 first-page reviews say about full-stack work
Technology and project mentions in the first page of reviews on each firm’s Clutch profile. Source: Brain Station 23 analysis of Clutch profiles, read 29 September 2026.

Seven firms are website agencies on the evidence. Five Jars, Bilberrry, Collective42, HDC, Modern Tribe, Culture Foundry and Unleashed Technologies each have half or more of their first-page reviews on CMS projects. Their framework lists are real, but the work their clients describe is WordPress and Drupal. For a content-led site that is a strength; for a SaaS product, look at the application builders.

The work is mostly rebuilds and upkeep. Sixty-two reviews describe a migration, rebuild, upgrade or legacy system, and 62 describe maintenance or ongoing support. Forty-six involve a mobile app, and 24 describe staff augmentation.

Sizes and records vary widely. Eight firms have 250 to 999 staff and two, BairesDev and Vention, more than 1,000; HDC has two to nine. The twenty hold 865 reviews, a median of 35, and two have fewer than ten: HDC with six and Modern Tribe with five.

Cost is the weak sub-score again. Of the 15 firms whose Clutch sub-scores differ, 12 score lowest, or joint lowest, on Cost. This Top 20 Full Stack Web Development Companies in USA list shares ten firms with our front-end companies list and seven with our MERN stack list, which is what you would expect from one directory; the filter and the review reading are where it differs.

How to shortlist a full-stack development company

Order the filters so the first one removes the most firms.

Seven steps to shortlist a full-stack development company
A shortlisting sequence for full-stack vendors. Source: Brain Station 23 analysis.

Step 1: Name the product. Write one line: a content site, a web application, or a platform with web and mobile apps. Everything else follows from it.

Step 2: Read what the reviews describe. Seven firms here are CMS agencies and several are staff augmentation providers. Keep the ones whose clients describe work like yours.

Step 3: Match your budget to the minimum. Minimums run from $1,000 to $250,000, and five firms charge $150 to $199 an hour.

Step 4: Ask how the seam is managed. Ask who designs the API, how front-end and back-end changes are coordinated, and how sign-in and permissions are handled across both.

Step 5: Meet both leads. A firm that sells full stack should put a front-end lead and a back-end lead in the pitch meeting.

Step 6: Ask who owns the accounts. The repository, cloud account, domain, CMS licences and third-party services should be in your name.

Step 7: Buy a paid discovery. A short fixed-fee discovery produces the architecture, the API outline and a costed backlog, and it tells you how the firm works before the large contract.

How to buy full-stack development: four engagement models

The engagement model decides who pays when the scope moves.

Four ways to buy full-stack development and who carries the risk
Engagement models for full-stack work. Source: Brain Station 23 analysis.

Fixed price moves overrun risk to the vendor, who prices it in. It suits a well-specified website. It fails on products whose requirements change as users arrive.

Time and materials keeps the risk with you. It suits web applications and rebuilds. Cap each phase and review burn every sprint.

Support retainer covers patches, framework upgrades and a block of changes. With five support dates between October 2026 and April 2027, it is often the most valuable contract.

Staff augmentation adds engineers to your team. BairesDev, Vention, CyberCraft, Jahnel Group, Cleveroad and Brain Station 23 publish staff augmentation work. It fails when nobody in-house owns the architecture and the API.

The technical question: the seam between front end and back end

Full-stack projects rarely slip inside the front end or inside the back end. They slip at the join: the API, shared data types, sign-in and deployment.

Where full-stack projects break and what a strong seam looks like
Weak and strong seams between front end and back end. Source: Brain Station 23 analysis.

Step 1: Write the API contract first. Agree the endpoints, data shapes and error formats before either side builds, and version the API from day one.

Step 2: Share the types. Generate front-end types from the API definition, or share them in one repository, so a back-end change breaks a build rather than a customer’s screen.

Step 3: Build sign-in once. One authentication service and one permission model, used by every screen and every endpoint.

Step 4: Test the flows that make money. Unit tests on each side are not enough. Automate the few complete user journeys that must never break: sign-up, checkout or the core workflow.

Step 5: Deploy both halves from one pipeline. One pipeline in your repository builds, tests and releases the front end and back end together, with a rollback that works.

Step 6: Put the upgrade calendar in the contract. Next.js 15 ends support on 21 October 2026 and Node.js 22 on 30 April 2027 (endoflife.date). Name the versions the vendor will keep each half on, and by when.

The order matters because each step makes the next one cheaper. A team that skips the contract and the shared types spends its time fixing breaks that the pipeline cannot catch.

Red flags: eight answers to walk away from

Eight vendor answers that should end the conversation
Answers that should end a full-stack vendor conversation. Sources: Brain Station 23 analysis; endoflife.date; CISA.

“Full stack means we build it in WordPress.” Fine for a content site. For an application, ask for one they built on a framework.

“One developer handles both halves.” Ask who covers leave and who reviews that person’s code.

“The API isn’t documented yet.” Documentation is a deliverable, not an extra. Ask for it in the contract.

“Next.js 15 is fine.” It reaches end of support on 21 October 2026 (endoflife.date).

“We host it on our account.” Then your product lives in their account. Hosting should be in your name, with billing you control.

“We’ll update the npm packages later.” The Shai-Hulud worm compromised over 500 npm packages in 2025 (CISA). Ask how dependencies are pinned and patched.

“The back end doesn’t need tests.” It is where your data lives. Ask for coverage on both halves.

“Our reviews speak for themselves.” Read what they describe. Here, 63 of 194 describe CMS work and ten say full stack.

After launch: what the build quote leaves out

This part covers what owners wish they had settled before the final invoice, and what recurs for as long as the product runs.

What you must own before the final invoice

The source repository with its full history, in your organisation, covering front end, back end, infrastructure code and database migrations.

The cloud and hosting accounts, with billing in your name and the vendor added as a user you can remove.

The domain and DNS, registered to you.

Every third-party account: payment provider, email service, search, analytics and any premium CMS plugin or theme licence, issued to you rather than to the agency.

The API documentation and the design files, current at handover.

A runbook: how to build, deploy, roll back, restore a backup and upgrade each framework.

The bill that arrives after launch

A build quote covers the build. What recurs afterwards is usually larger over three years.

The recurring costs under a full-stack build quote

Hosting and database costs grow with traffic. Add framework upgrades on both halves, dependency patching across npm, Composer or pip, third-party services such as sign-in, email and search, monitoring, and change requests, which are usually the largest line by year two. Get the recurring number before you sign the build, and compare vendors over three years.

Security is a recurring cost

Security signals for full-stack applications
Security signals. Sources: CISA; Verizon DBIR 2026; SecurityWeek; IBM.

A full-stack application has two dependency trees, and attackers target both. The Shai-Hulud worm compromised over 500 npm packages and harvested GitHub tokens and AWS, Google Cloud and Azure keys (CISA). Exploited vulnerabilities started 31 percent of the breaches in Verizon’s 2026 report, and the median time to fully patch rose to 43 days (Verizon DBIR 2026; SecurityWeek). A US breach averages $10.22 million (IBM). Write a patch window in days into the support contract.

Accessibility is legal exposure

In 2026, 95.9 percent of the top million home pages had detectable WCAG failures (WebAIM), and 5,114 US digital accessibility lawsuits were filed in 2025 (UsableNet). Name WCAG 2.2 AA in the contract rather than the word “accessible”, test with a keyboard and a screen reader, and treat overlay widgets with caution.

Contract clauses that surface in month nine

IP assignment on payment, not on final acceptance.

Transition assistance: a set number of hours to hand over to another team.

Rate escalation caps for the support term.

Subcontracting and offshore work, named in the statement of work.

Upgrade obligations: which framework and runtime versions the vendor will keep each half on, and by when.

Liability cap and insurance that reflect what a breach would cost.

Non-solicitation both ways.

This is not legal advice; have counsel review the contract.

How to leave without losing the codebase

Confirm you hold the repository, cloud accounts, domain, third-party services and licences. Trigger the transition hours while relations are cordial. Record walkthroughs of the architecture, the API and the deployment. On the last day, rotate every credential and API key the vendor could reach and remove their access.

Hire in-house or hire a full-stack development company

The BLS median for web developers was $92,650 in May 2025 (BLS), and ZipRecruiter puts the average full-stack developer at $123,262 before benefits (ZipRecruiter).

Hire in-house when the product is the business and changes every week. Two engineers who know the codebase beat a vendor relearning it.

Hire an agency for a website or a new application with a launch date, where you need design, front-end, back-end and hosting skills for a few months.

Use staff augmentation when you have a technical lead but not enough engineers; our guide to hiring full-stack developers in the USA covers that route.

FAQ

Which companies are the top full-stack web developers in the USA?

Using Clutch’s US web developers ranking filtered to firms that publish both front-end and back-end frameworks, the five highest on 29 September 2026 were Cleveroad, Suffescom Solutions, INOXOFT, Scopic and Five Jars (Clutch).

How much do US full-stack development companies charge?

Rates on this list run from under $25 to $199 an hour. Minimum projects run from $1,000 to $250,000, with a median of $25,000 (Clutch).

What does a full-stack developer earn in the US?

Between $92,320 and $123,262 on average, depending on the source: PayScale reports base pay and ZipRecruiter a fuller figure (PayScale; ZipRecruiter).

Which stack should a new web application use?

The most common pairing is Node.js with React, used by 48.7 and 44.7 percent of developers in 2025 (Stack Overflow). Pick the one your future hires know, and check its support dates.

Is a WordPress agency a full-stack company?

It can be for a content site: theme, plugins, integrations and hosting are front-end and back-end work. For a custom application, ask for projects built on a framework such as React with an API behind it.

When do common full-stack frameworks lose support?

Next.js 15 on 21 October 2026, Angular 20 on 28 November 2026, PHP 8.2 on 31 December 2026, Laravel 12 security fixes on 24 February 2027 and Node.js 22 on 30 April 2027 (endoflife.date).

How is this list different from a front-end list?

It keeps only firms that publish a back-end framework too, and it reads their reviews for the kind of work they do. It shares ten firms with our front-end companies list.

Conclusion

The data behind this Top 20 Full Stack Web Development Companies in USA list says three things. Clutch has no full-stack category, and 14 of the top 34 firms fail a simple front-end and back-end test. Of the twenty that pass, seven are CMS agencies on their clients’ evidence, and only 10 of 194 reviews call the work full stack. And every stack runs on dated support calendars, with five end dates between October 2026 and April 2027.

Any of the twenty can build both halves of something. What decides the next three years is whether the API between them is written down, whether both halves stay on supported versions, and whether the repository, cloud account and domain are in your name on the day the vendor leaves.
